Preparing for a Rainy Day Wedding

Rainy day weddings. Sure, rain is said to be good luck on your wedding day, but it’s never quite welcome. Here’s what you should do if suddenly the forecast predicts a rainy day.

  1. If you’re having an outdoor ceremony, make sure you have a tent set up and some umbrellas on hand for guests.
  2. Trust a bridesmaid or another friend or family member with a “rainy day kit”. Stash hairspray, bobby pins, makeup, and other essentials that can help you refresh your look should you get rained on.
  3. If the weather is particularly nasty, consider getting dressed at the church instead of at home. It’ll be easier for you to keep looking bridal beautiful.
  4. If you’re transporting your dress anywhere, make sure you have double plastic covers on it to keep it protected.
  5. Wait until the very last minute to put on your shoes. You don’t want them to get muddy! Or, as a fun way to make light of the weather during an outdoor ceremony, you can always walk down the aisle in colorful rubber boots.
  6. Contact your vendors and make sure that they are prepared in case it should rain.
  7. Appoint a few ushers to escort guests who may not have an umbrella. This’ll make everyone happy.
  8. If you’re having a wedding at a country club or similar venue, ask to be moved from the patio to an indoor banquet room. If the weather looks bad, some venues may be especially accommodating.
  9. Wear waterproof makeup!
  10. Remember the French saying, “Mariage pluvieux, mariage heureux“, a wet wedding means a happy marriage!
