Wedding Colors to Watch in 2011: Neutrals

Neutral Wedding Accessories

Neutral Wedding Accessories

For the past few months, we’ve been watching the runways to see what trends are likely to hit our closets, but there’s one design element that seems to be popping up everywhere. It’s been featured on perfectly manicured nails and in wedding cakes. It’s showing up more and more in gowns and on tablescapes. What are we talking about? Ladies, we’re talking about neutrals.

But these aren’t your grandmother’s neutrals. Oh, no. Neutrals have gotten MAJOR makeovers recently and now, it’s become totally fashionable to have a wedding that showcases a neutral color palette.

Instead of boring shades like beige, wedding designers are getting creative by playing with texture and color warmth and coming up with shades like honeysuckle, silver peony, cloud, and russet. These shades are the farthest thing from flat. They’re pretty and perfect for making other color choices pop. To master the trend, we’ve found that it’s best to pair a variety of neutrals with a vibrant color to add dimension. In 2010, it was all about monochromatic weddings. Now it’s time to get playful with complimentary colors.

The best part is that neutrals can work in perfectly with a variety of wedding themes, including:

  • Vintage
  • Woodland
  • Ethereal
  • Fairy tale
  • Classic Romantic
  • Modern/Contemporary
  • Whimsical
  • And these are only a handful of themes that we can think of. Pretty much any wedding theme can work with neutrals this season, especially if you decide to go with a palette that’s focused on the softer side of the color wheel. Oh, and did we mention that you can find TONS of different ways to incorporate neutral details into your wedding plans? Cakes, flowers, dresses, shoes, table linens, decorations, favors…the list goes on and on.

Take a walk on the wild side and play with neutrals in your palette. It may not seem daring, but trust us, it can definitely make an impact! (Oh! Don’t forget to check out some of our best neutral wedding favors and neutral wedding accessories to accentuate this trendy palette.)

6 Out of the Box Places to Have Your Wedding

Movie Themed Wedding Favors Are Great for A Movie Theater Wedding!

Movie Themed Wedding Favors Are Great for A Movie Theater Wedding!

We all know that the wedding venue is an important part of the day. After all, it’s where the magic happens! But before you go off to book the nearest reception hall, hotel ballroom, or backyard, consider having your wedding somewhere that’s a bit more memorable or non-traditional. Having an affair in an out of the box location not only adds flavor to the occasion, but it can also sometimes save you a bundle on your wedding costs.

Here are six out of the box places to have your wedding reception:

    Museum
Love history and culture? Want to make your wedding even more interesting? Try hosting it at a local museum! Not only are the spaces beautiful, but you can also give your guests a tour of the facility as a pre-dinner/post-cocktails activity. So much fun and think of the photo opportunities! Bride, groom, and Van Gogh’s “Starry Night”? Sounds like a masterpiece.

    Art Gallery
Sophisticated and chic. Those are two words that best describe art gallery nuptials. To host this swanky affair, seek out a gallery and book a caterer for a cocktail reception. It’ll be beautiful and out of the ordinary. Oh yes, and did we mention there’s beautiful decor already built into the space?

    School
Remember the magic of dancing on the basketball court to those prom songs of yesterday? Well, now you can capture that same experience on your wedding day by hosting the big day at your alma mater. Think of the decorating possibilities! Whether it’s a college or a high school, a schoolhouse wedding is sure to be memorable (and great for teachers!). The only hitch: alcohol on school grounds. Make sure you get prior approval!

    Movie Theater
You and your hubby’s name in lights…what could be better? Put your wedding date and names up on the marquee and enjoy an evening with the stars at your movie theater wedding. Instead of crab cakes, serve up hot buttered popcorn and Junior Mints. Then, have your guests dance the night away in the aisles or on stage. As a special touch, screen an original movie that’s all about your own love story!

    Bowling Alley
Nothing goes better with a wedding dress than bowling shoes! This fun and funky reception idea is nothing short of unforgettable. Pizza, beer, wings, and all of those bowling alley munchies are a must as you and your wedding guests bowl a few games between dances. STRIKE!

    Ski Resort
Love to ski? Want a way to enjoy winter? Then have your wedding at a ski resort. Have your ceremony in the lodge then follow up with a few trips down the slopes. Give your guests free passes and then afterwards, enjoy dancing and hot cocoa as you warm up. So much fun!
