Wonderful Winter Wedding Ideas

Bridal Wrap.jpgWinter can be such a magical time of the year for a wedding. While most people tend to think of the snow as an annoyance, imagine how a gorgeous a bride would look as her white wedding dress glistens against the snow covered ground. Breathtaking! Not to mention, the decor options for a winter wedding are endless!

Here are some of our favorite winter wedding details that are sure to make your holiday season nuptials an event to remember:

  • Have snowflake wedding decorations by dangling handmade or store bought snowflakes from the ceiling of the reception hall.
  • Winter weddings are often associated with the color white, but blue is a wintery color that is often forgotten. Go against the norm, and create an ice blue wonderland for your wedding! Accent blues with whites and silvers for a sophisticated, chic look.
  • At the reception, hang mistletoe above the bride and groom?s seats. Voila! The perfect kiss to kick off the reception!
  • Give guests winter wedding favors, like our Snow in Love plantable snowflake seed favors, miniature winter snowglobe favors, or winter scented pine cone favors. Our winter wedding favor selection has dozens of favors for you to choose from – all with a holiday or winter theme in mind!
  • Want to liven up your wedding gown? Try a beautiful bridal cape or bridal wrap in an elegant fur accented by a crystal bridal brooch
  • Personalized ornaments can be used as place cards and favors.
  • Fill the dessert table with Christmas cookies and other holiday treats, like white chocolate snowflakes
  • A red and white theme is elegant and creates a Christmas atmosphere. Use red accents such as bows, holly, candles and even bridesmaids dresses if you want a Christmastime wedding.
  • Create a unique church atmosphere by decorating the church aisles with miniature potted trees sprayed white with fake snow and stringing white lights throughout them.
  • Candle lit centerpieces create a relaxing atmosphere, so feel free to play around with pillar candles on holiday plates, glass hurricane lamps, or elegant candelabras.

15 Ways to Personalize Your Wedding

Monogram Cake Topper.jpgYour wedding is one of the most wonderful days of your entire life, and it should be celebrated to the fullest. One of the many ways to make sure you have a memorable, one-of-a-kind wedding is by personalizing certain details to suit your tastes and unique style, or by using personalized wedding accessories and decor. Here are 15 ways you can personalize your wedding.

  1. Keep guests cool inside a tightly packed church with DIY fan programs with a special message from the bride and groom.
  2. Decorate with your childhood photos! Clip photos of you and your groom along a clothesline, and string the clothesline up at the church, reception hall or wedding location.
  3. Direct the way to your wedding with a blackboard sign with you and your grooms name on it and an arrow pointing in the right direction.
  4. Make your own wedding invitations with a DIY invitation kit.
  5. For a fall wedding, instead of the flower girl scattering the traditional flowers, have her scatter colorful leaves. It’s a unique detail anyone can appreciate. Feel free to get creative with bubbles, lavender buds, birdseed, confetti, or other wedding details to make your flower girl’s walk down the aisle unique.
  6. Instead of wearing no shoes to a beach wedding, slip on a pair of barefoot sandals. They’re beautiful and totally unexpected!
  7. Drive away from the ceremony in style when you decorate your car with personalized car wedding décor.
  8. Decorate the dance floor with personalized wedding dance floor decals.
  9. Rent a photo booth, and use a personalized photo booth backdrop.
  10. Label your chairs at the reception with bride and groom sashes, or personalized chair sashes.
  11. At the reception, instead of setting out the tradition guest book, set out a wooden box with cards and a pen, and tell guests they should write their well wishes on the paper and set it in the box.
  12. Walk down the isle on a personalized isle runner.
  13. Personalize your wedding favors with DIY favors and kits. Feature your names, wedding date, or monogram for a polished touch.
  14. Decorate the top of your wedding cake with a photo of your and your groom or choose a monogram cake topper.
  15. Incorporate your heritage, hometowns or favorite hobbies into your ceremony and reception.

Personalizing your wedding can be fun, whether it’s through DIY wedding projects or doing something non-traditional.

The Unity Sand Ceremony: Part 2

In our last post, we gave you some background on how the actual unity sand ceremony plays into your wedding, but in this post, we’ll give you more specific instructions on how to actually perform the ceremony as part of your special day.

To perform this ceremony, you’ll need: a unity sand ceremony set, or, three vases and sand. One of the vases should be larger than the other two. The sand can be different colors or undyed – it’s up to you.  If you choose colored sands, you can always choose colors that relate to your wedding color palette, or to your wedding theme. Some couples choose their favorite colors while some will go with black for the groom and white for the bride. It’s really up to you.

Once you have your materials, it’s time to perform the ritual.

Unity Sand Ceremony Directions

Unity Sand Ceremony Directions

The groom will begin the unity sand ceremony by pouring a portion of his sand into the large glass vase, which is placed in the center of a table or display. While the groom is pouring, the bride will hold onto her vase. Once the groom has poured a portion of his sand into the center vase, the bride will follow by pouring a portion of her sand into the same center vase, making a second layer of sand. From there, the groom and bride will continue to alternate pouring in portions of their sand. Depending on how much sand you use, this could vary. To keep things simple, make four layers total of sand. Then, for the fifth layer – and the final step of the ceremony – have the bride and groom pour their remaining portions of sand into the larger vase together, forming a final top layer that blends both of their sands together simultaneously.

While the sand is being poured, the bride and groom could recite their traditional wedding vows, unity sand vows, readings, or poetry to one another. Some couples choose to pay a song while they pour their sand. Others prefer silence. It’s up to you on the atmosphere. The key is to keep the unity sand ceremony special to both of you.

The Unity Sand Ceremony: Part 1

For many couples, the unity candle is a representation of the commitment that bride and groom make when they decide to get married. However, there’s a new type of unity ceremony that’s taking the place of the unity candle and that ceremony is the unity sand ceremony. Ideal for couples who want an alternative to the unity candle, the unity sand ceremony is a timeless and unique way to express the love and coming together that marriage represents.

What is the unity sand ceremony?

Just like the unity candle, the unity sand ceremony is a symbolic gesture that represents the bringing together of two lives into one.

When did the unity sand ceremony become popular?

While the exact origin of the ceremony isn’t clear, some have traced it back to Native American cultures. However, it didn’t become incredibly popular until a few years ago, when The Bachelorette TV show incorporated it into the multimillion dollar wedding of Trista Rehn and Ryan Sutter. Since that time, brides have been inspired to try this timeless tradition at their own weddings, bringing together the beauty of sand and the symbolic meaning of unity brought about through marriage.

What does one need to perform a unity sand ceremony?

Like a unity candle ceremony, the unity sand ceremony is actually very simple. In order to perform it, one needs a unity sand ceremony vase set and sand. That’s it. It’s very simple but very powerful and elegant.

What happens during the ceremony?

In our next post, we’ll dive into the actual ins and outs of the ceremony, but generally, the unity sand ceremony follows this model: the couple will pour sands from their own vases into one large vase. This can be done in a variety of ways or during the recitation of unity sand ceremony vows. It’s really up to you!

Stay tuned for our next post, we’re we’ll talk more about how the unity sand ceremony actually happens.

Preparing for a Rainy Day Wedding

Rainy day weddings. Sure, rain is said to be good luck on your wedding day, but it’s never quite welcome. Here’s what you should do if suddenly the forecast predicts a rainy day.

  1. If you’re having an outdoor ceremony, make sure you have a tent set up and some umbrellas on hand for guests.
  2. Trust a bridesmaid or another friend or family member with a “rainy day kit”. Stash hairspray, bobby pins, makeup, and other essentials that can help you refresh your look should you get rained on.
  3. If the weather is particularly nasty, consider getting dressed at the church instead of at home. It’ll be easier for you to keep looking bridal beautiful.
  4. If you’re transporting your dress anywhere, make sure you have double plastic covers on it to keep it protected.
  5. Wait until the very last minute to put on your shoes. You don’t want them to get muddy! Or, as a fun way to make light of the weather during an outdoor ceremony, you can always walk down the aisle in colorful rubber boots.
  6. Contact your vendors and make sure that they are prepared in case it should rain.
  7. Appoint a few ushers to escort guests who may not have an umbrella. This’ll make everyone happy.
  8. If you’re having a wedding at a country club or similar venue, ask to be moved from the patio to an indoor banquet room. If the weather looks bad, some venues may be especially accommodating.
  9. Wear waterproof makeup!
  10. Remember the French saying, “Mariage pluvieux, mariage heureux“, a wet wedding means a happy marriage!
